


Taishaku-kyo Ravine

The Taishaku River had eroded the karst pleateau in this area and formed this ravine, extending to as much as 20 km. The rare sight of the
natural bridge (Onbashi), stalacite calerns, rockpillars and falls has always attracted tourists. The green
leaves and maple leaves look beautiful in contrast to the water of Lake Shinryu, made by damming Taishaku River
in 1924. Cruise about the area, look up at the cliffs and you will find yourself in a totally different world. Rsently remains of
what seems to be an ancuent dwelling of 8,000-10,000years were discovered, adding an archeological value to the area. It is also the
appointed tour site, and Taisyaku kyo national leisure house were established in October 1975.
